چکیده

Stacking plays an important role in improving signal-to-noise ratio and imaging quality of seismic data. However, for low-fold-coverage seismic profiles, the result of conventional stacking is not always satisfactory. To address this problem, we have developed a method of stacking in which we use local correlation as a weight for stacking common-midpoint gathers after NMO processing or common-imagepoint gathers after prestack migration. Application of the method to synthetic and field data showed that stacking using local correlation can be more effective in suppressing random noise and artifacts than other stacking methods.

Weighted stacking of seismic AVO data using hybrid AB semblance and local similarity

Common-midpoint (CMP) stacking technique plays an important role in enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in seismic data processing and imaging. Weighted stacking is often used to improve the performance of conventional equalweight stacking in further attenuating random noise and handling the amplitude variations in real seismic data. In this study, we propose to use a hybrid framework of ...

Detecting buried channels using linear least square RGB color stacking method based on deconvolutive short time Fourier transform

Buried channels are one of the stratigraphic hydrocarbon traps. They are often filled with a variety of porous and permeable sediments so they are important in the exploration of oil and gas reservoirs. In reflection seismic data, high-frequency components are sensitive to the channel thickness, whereas, low-frequency components are sensitive to the channel infill materials. Therefore, decompos...

Extracting seismic core phases with array interferometry

[1] Seismic body waves that sample Earth’s core are indispensable for studying the most remote regions of the planet. Traditional core phase studies rely on well-defined earthquake signals, which are spatially and temporally limited. We show that, by stacking ambient-noise cross-correlations between USArray seismometers, body wave phases reflected off the outer core (ScS), and twice refracted t...

Towards the seislet transform

I introduce a digital wavelet-like transform tailored specifically for representing seismic data. The transform provides a multiscale orthogonal basis with basis functions aligned along seismic event slopes in the input data. It is defined with the help of the wavelet lifting scheme combined with local plane-wave destruction. The main objective of the new “seislet” transform is an optimal seism...

Dynamically Focused Gaussian Beams for Seismic Imaging

An initial study is performed in which dynamically focused Gaussian beams are investigated for seismic imaging. Focused Gaussian beams away from the source and receiver plane allow the narrowest and planar portions of the beams to occur at the depth of a specific target structure. To match the seismic data, quadratic phase corrections are required for the local slant stacks of the surface data....
